Sunderland news: Jurgen Klopp vetoes Ben Woodburn move

Chris Coleman wanted to bring the 18-year-old forward to Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season in a bid to aid their Championship relegation battle.  The Black Cats gaffer made a request to Liverpool but, according to The Sun on Sunday, Klopp insisted he is staying put.  Coleman knows Woodburn well, having worked with him at international level.  The Liverpool ace became Wales’ second-youngest ever goalscorer when he netted on his debut against Austria in September.  Woodburn enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, making nine appearances for the…

Despite public outrage, web access for prisoners isn't a luxury item – here's why

The UK’s prisons are slowly catching up with the digital age. But in an era of austerity and turmoil, introducing inmates to technologies that many of us take for granted is – for some – alarming. My research shows that digital progress in prisons allows offenders to order their own meals, book visits, contact home, undertake e-learning, manage their finances, improve their health and prepare for release. Prisoners using web-based tools to manage their daily lives is good for society. It’s also an opportunity for prison staff to work with…

Housing Market Stabilises in November as the North CONTINUES to outstrip London

Whilst momentum may have subdued, the pragmatic view is that, given the interest rate rise at the beginning of last month, ongoing consumer demand means that the market has flattened rather than dropped in many areas, both in terms of prices to buy but also the cost of rents.  The RICS report differs to other industry indices, as its content is based on a monthly survey to which Surveyors provide responses indicating what they are observing in their local area, rather than hard data.  As such, the results are seen…

Leeds news: Reading plan to open January talks for Whites target John

The 22-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Ibrox from Cardiff City and has impressed for the Gers, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 10 appearances. Leeds were linked with a move for two-cap Wales international John last month. The left-back position has proved problematic for the Whites since the departure of Charlie Taylor to Burnley.  John is out of contract at the end of the season. Cardiff are considering cutting short his loan spell when the transfer window reopens and cashing in.

Manchester United have failed Jose Mourinho by missing out on three huge transfers

But Manchester United could be looking down, rather than up, at their local rivals had Jose Mourinho got his way in the summer. At the time, fans were happy. Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic were all top signings. And they remain so. Even if Lukaku looks lost, Lindelof sometimes shaky and Matic lacklustre without Paul Pogba beside him, the trio have definitely improved Manchester United. Yet while Mourinho was forced to settle for three, Pep Guardiola over at the Etihad got his way with five. In came Bernardo…

Heavy snow has caused travel chaos for fans across the UK as Storm Caroline plunges the country into a cold snap.
