REVEALED: House price hotspots among commuter towns

Property prices in Swanley, Kent, less than a 40-minute train journey from London, are now just a little over 375,000, having risen around £36,500 over the past 12 months.  The rapid 10.78 per cent growth means owners would claw back the cost of their £2,500 annual rail fare within 25 days.  Dursley – a town on the outskirts of Bristol – has also seen strong growth over the past 12 months, with property prices around 9.71 per cent (£26,339) higher than last year.  Residents of the market town could pay…

GETTY / PH Christopher Plummer excels in All The Money In The World Now the veteran has gone one better by playing the world’s second most-famous miser – the oil magnate JP Getty – in Ridley Scott’s All The Money In The World. Six weeks before this true-story film about the 1973 kidnapping of the billionaire’s imaginatively named grandson John Paul Getty III was due out, a string of lurid stories surfaced about the alleged sexual misdeeds of Kevin Spacey, the actor playing him. Unflustered, Scott, 80, approached the studio…

Ashes 2017-18: Australia v England, fifth Test, day two – live!

The players are back on the field. England starting with three slips and a gully for Jimmy. Bancroft is on strike, for perhaps his biggest innings yet as an Australian player. Play. England are dismissed but won the morning, adding 113 for their final five wickets. That’s well above par relative to what we have seen from their bottom half this series. A bit of Smith fielding magic got the home side going, taking a blinding catch at second slip to remove Malan just as the Middlesex man looked a…

Ashes 2017-18: Australia v England fourth Test, day two – live!

Oh yes, that’s very out. Bird has reviewed, but I’m not going to dignify that with a second post. Three reds from a ball that jagged back off the seam and trapped him on the crease. The best bit was Broad giving it the big fist pump before he even looked around at the umpire. A fantastic session for England. Broad has 26-8-51-3. Probably not cooked, then. 114th over: Australia 325-8 (Cummins 3, Hazlewood 0). 113th over: Australia 322-7 (Cummins 0, Bird 4). Should be two in the over, Anderson…
