Ashes 2017-18: Australia v England third Test, day five – live!

This is actually hilarious. The groundstaff are scrambling the big cover back on, the wind keeps blowing it away and nearly takes a few of them with it. They genuinely look like it’s never rained here before. Maybe it hasn’t? The ABC radio box is in hysterics watching the slapstick unfold. Between laughter, Chris Rogers is noting the holes in the technique. “It rained then, and hard, for a good 30 seconds before they got the hessian on. It’s almost like they were surprised again, and had to get to…

It seems that there’s only one Gandalf to rule them all when it comes to Middle Earth on screen. The 78-year-old star originally played the wizard in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, before returning a decade later to star as a younger version of him in The Hobbit films. At the time he joked how if he didn’t return for the prequels someone like John Hurt would be cast instead. But now with the announcement of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series, it looks like Sir Ian…

How companies handle accusations in the #MeToo era

In the fast-paced era of the #MeToo movement, the number of high-profile men accused of sexual misconduct keeps growing — and some of the accused have lost their jobs seemingly instantaneously. While many have admitted, or partially admitted, wrongdoing, others — including talk show host Tavis Smiley, radio host Garrison Keillor, New Yorker political reporter Ryan Lizza, and former Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. — have denied the claims against them. Yet they’ve still been fired by their companies. That kind of corporate response may seem harsh, but employment law attorneys…

Ashes 2017-18: Australia v England third Test, day three – live!

81st over: Australia 272-4 (Smith 128, M Marsh 12) England haven’t taken the new ball. What doing? Anderson stays around the wicket to Smith. A single puts Marsh up there. “Jimmy, what are you doing wanting to bowl with the old ball?” asks Michael Vaughan. Marsh agrees, smashing him down the ground for a superbly struck straight drive. Tasty. Oh, that does it – they take the new ball immediately after the boundary. And guess what? Gets an edge first ball. Into the ground, though. “They just have to go…
