GETTY Ben Stokes has been charged with affray Avon and Somerset police confirmed that Stokes is due to appear at Bristol magistrates’ court on February 13 to face the charge of affray, following an incident outside a Bristol nightclub in September.  But only hours earlier, in Brisbane, England head coach Trevor Bayliss was all smiles as he said that his talismanic all-rounder would be “welcomed back with open arms” following the ECB’s decision to make him available for selection once more. To add to the sense that Stokes is now…

Earlier this week the all-rounder was charged with affray for his part in an incident outside a Bristol nightclub last September in the middle of England’s one-day series against West Indies. Euro hits three-year high as dollar recovers from low against yen

Comments by the Estonian central bank chief and ECB rate-setter Ardo Hansson on Monday reinforced those expectations, with Mr Hansson telling a German newspaper that the ECB could end its €2.55 trillion bond-buying scheme in one step after September if the economy and inflation develop as now expected. The euro last changed hands at $1.2263, staying within sight of Monday’s peak of about $1.2296, its strongest since December 2014. 39th over: Australia 212-5 (Stonis 11, Paine 2) Woakes on for his third crack today. Has four overs to squeeze out after struggling earlier on. Five from it in the smaller denominations. 38th over: Australia 207-5 (Stonis 7, Paine 1) Paine the new man, playing his first ODI in nearly seven years. What a great story his summer has been. NICK COMPTON: Why England selectors are to blame for Ashes thrashing – EXCLUSIVE

GETTY England cricket Nick Compton is an Ashes columnist for Express Sport Albert Einstein is supposed to have said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Almost every Test match in the Ashes has told the same story: England’s bowlers looked ineffective, the batsmen didn’t go on to get big hundreds and Australia’s did. But it was hardly unpredictable. Even from my own perspective, there has hardly been a single mishap that I didn’t put in writing before it happened, whether it…

Sergei Glazev, an economic adviser to Mr Putin, told a recent government meeting a cryptorouble would be a useful tool to get around international sanctions. Ashes 2017-18: Australia v England fourth Test, day two – live!

Oh yes, that’s very out. Bird has reviewed, but I’m not going to dignify that with a second post. Three reds from a ball that jagged back off the seam and trapped him on the crease. The best bit was Broad giving it the big fist pump before he even looked around at the umpire. A fantastic session for England. Broad has 26-8-51-3. Probably not cooked, then. 114th over: Australia 325-8 (Cummins 3, Hazlewood 0). 113th over: Australia 322-7 (Cummins 0, Bird 4). Should be two in the over, Anderson…

‘I’ve a new lease of life’: why women are turning to cricket in droves

Shilly Pancholi remembers playing cricket as a little girl. Well, more specifically, watching her dad and brother from the outfield. “My brother would bat for hours and I’d be fielding, sitting on the grass and making daisy chains,” she says. “To be honest, I never thought I would play. I thought there was no space for me in that sport.” This year, aged 43, she finally took up cricket in earnest. In an attempt to encourage her son, Pancholi went to cricket fitness sessions for mothers and children organised by…
