Solar Storm in pictures: Huge solar storm to hit Earth TODAY

The arrival of the solar storm will also coincide with the formation of equinox cracks in the Earth’s magnetic field – this usually happens on March 20 and September 23 each year.

A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots.

Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive event.

They are seen as bright areas on the sun and last from mere minutes to several hours.

Solar winds, which are a stream of particles from the sun, can heat the Earth’s outer atmosphere, causing it to expand.

This can affect satellites in orbit, potentially leading to a lack of GPS navigation, mobile phone signal and satellite TV such as Sky.
