UFC’s plans for Conor McGregor revealed
The UFC are eager to have Conor McGregor fight the winner of Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will compete for the Irishman’s title at UFC 223 on April 7.
“All the pub right now is Mayweather under MMA rules but I can’t see Mayweather agreeing to that, even though it’s huge money,” MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer said in his subscription-only newsletter.
“The UFC fight idea is the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.”
McGregor, 29, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since his historic UFC 205 victory over Eddie Alvarez, a triumph which saw him become the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold two titles simultaneously.
Conor McGregor slammed by rival
Conor McGregor’s appearance in Burger King’s latest advert has been mocked by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“A lot of people call him like a king but he’s not like a king,” Nurmagomedov told Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole.
“Now he’s Burger King. He has money, he has good life, he’s a famous guy. I think it’s better for him if he stay away from good fighters in the lightweight division.
“For me, too, because when you go to the cage with me it’s not like you’re going to cage with Burger King. This is different. That’s why he has to stay away.”
Darren Till speaks out on Conor McGregor comparisons
Rising UFC welterweight Darren Till has claimed he isn’t surprised by people comparing himself to McGregor.
However, he reckons he’s a better fighter than ‘The Notorious’.
“He looked more into marketing [than I am]; I don’t think I market myself,” Till told ESPN. “I’m just real. I just say what I think. I just write or post what I think. I just think he lacks a bit of kicking, little bit of cardio.
“But you could put us in the same bracket in the fighting style. But I am better. I know I’m better.
“It’s not a disrespect to him or any other fighter out there in the world, to the best in the world — could be [Daniel] Cormier, the Jon Joneses, I just believe I am the best fighter.”
