The movie, subtitled The Crimes of Grindelwald, is in cinemas later this year; and sees Eddie Redmayne returning as Newt Scamander.
A campaign was launched on the film’s official online channels yesterday calling for fans to get their “#WandsReady”, along with a short teaser.
The full clip will then arrive at some point later today (March 13).
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald needs a good trailer to distract from the controversy that has engulfed its casting over recent months.
With Johnny Depp on board as Gridelwald himself, there has been criticism from some moviegoers over his involvement, following allegations of abuse made against him by ex-wife Amber Heard.
Although the matter was ultimately settled in August 2016, JK Rowling – the writer of the Harry Potter series and this new movie – and the movie’s producers have had to speak out to defend their decision to keep him aboard, particularly amid the growing #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.
“Harry Potter fans had legitimate questions and concerns about our choice to continue with Johnny Depp in the role,” Rowling wrote last December.
“As David Yates, long-time Potter director, has already said, we naturally considered the possibility of recasting. I understand why some have been confused and angry about why that didn’t happen.
“For me personally, the inability to speak openly to fans about this issue has been difficult, frustrating and at times painful.
“However, the agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected.”
Other talent on board includes Katherine Waterston as Tina, Dan Fogler as Jacob, Alison Sudol as Queenie, Ezra Miller as Credence, and Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore.
Fantastic Beasts 2 is released on November 16.
