Sony will reveal its new Xperia range at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The Japanese technology firm looks set to lift the lid on its next generation of smartphones at a press conference on Monday February 26.
Rumours have been rife that Sony will unveil a new device called the Xperia XZ Pro and a recent leak from Three Mobile suggested that another device called the Xperia XZ2 could also get a grand unveiling at MWC 2018.
The message, which was posted on Twitter by Three Ireland, suggested the XZ2 is “coming soon”.
The tweet, which has since been deleted, came in response to a customer asking if the popular operator would stocking Sony’s new mid-range Xperia XA2.
The reply said: “We won’t be ranging the XA2, but will range the XZ2 which will be coming soon.”
However, there’s now a new piece of news which, if it turns out to be true, will mean Sony isn’t planning to launch either of the devices mentioned above.
Spotted by GSM Arena it appears a recent HTML benchmark test has revealed Sony’s next Xperia will be called the XZ2 Pro.
This means a premium version of the XZ2 brand will arrive long before the actual XZ2 handset – which Express.co.uk believes is likely to arrive in the autumn.
Sony has a long tradition of producing complicated naming conventions for their devices but this could be their most confusing to date.
We’ll find out full details on February 26 but it appears the XZ2 Pro will include Android Oreo out of the box and feature a 4K display.
Other features are likely to include the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor which is not only hugely powerful but also much more efficient.
A large 3,420mAh battery and faster charging could also be coming to the Xperia brand with it going from last to 50 per cent in 15 minutes.
Sony is also expected to finally bring a dual-lens camera to its Xperia brand which will allow users to add DSLR-style depth of field to images.
Users may also be able to choose between a 64 and 128GB models which will be expandable via MicroSD cards.
Express.co.uk will be in Barcelona and will bring you all the news live as it happens.
