Nintendo Switch games – GTA 5, Super Smash Bros and Pokemon news could be soon

Nintendo Switch fans hoping for games news on GTA 5, Super Smash Bros and Pokemon Switch may be getting an update very soon.

It had been rumoured that GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption Remastered were going to get announced for the Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Direct this month.

Other games fans were hoping for information on were Pokemon Switch, which has already been announced, and a Super Smash Bros game for the hit hybrid console.

But the recent Nintendo Direct Mini did not feature these titles, instead focussing on other brand new games.

Dark Souls Remastered, Mario Tennis Aces and Switch ports of Wii U hits Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze were all announced.

The World Ends With You Final Remix and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy were also announced during the first Nintendo Direct of 2018.

However, for fans hoping for details on GTA 5, Super Smash Bros and Pokemon Switch this month, they shouldn’t lose hope.

This is because every single Nintendo Direct Mini so far has been followed up with a full Nintendo Direct presentation just a few weeks later.

Reddit user Natzore noticed that the time between a Nintendo Direct Mini and a full Nintendo Direct presentation has never been more than 20 days.

Major announcements are usually held back for full Nintendo Direct presentations, so the Japanese gaming giant could be readying some big news for fans.

And the timelines so far would indicate another Nintendo Direct happening either in January or early February.

The Redditor gave a list showing the time between Nintendo Direct Minis and full Nintendo Direct presentations so far:

• Nintendo Direct Mini – July 18 2012, following Nintendo Direct – July 30 2012, time between Nintendo Directs – 12 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – September 7 2012, following Nintendo Direct – September 13 2012, time between Nintendo Directs – six days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – October 3 2012, following Nintendo Direct – October 4 2012, time between Nintendo Directs – one day

• Nintendo Direct Mini – November 27 2012, following Nintendo Direct – December 5 2012, time between Nintendo Directs – eight days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – December 19 2012, following Nintendo Direct – January 8 2013, time between Nintendo Directs – 20 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – April 1 2013, following Nintendo Direct – April 3 2013, time between Nintendo Directs – two days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – July 18 2013, following Nintendo Direct – August 7 2013, time between Nintendo Directs – 20 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – October 29 2013, following Nintendo Direct – November 12 2013, time between Nintendo Directs – 14 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – November 14 2013, following Nintendo Direct – November 27 2013, time between Nintendo Directs – 13 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – June 1 2015, following Nintendo Direct – June 14 2015, time between Nintendo Directs – 13 days

• Nintendo Direct Mini – November 2 2016, following Nintendo Direct – November 5 2016, time between Nintendo Directs – three days

Another Nintendo Direct soon after the recent Nintendo Direct Mini makes sense with plenty of new Switch games lined up by Ninty.

Recently, online retail giant Amazon posted placeholders for 18 new Switch titles on their US website.

Some of these were priced up to $99.99, which suggests a number of the placeholders were special editions.

Nonetheless, that still leaves plenty of wiggle room for new, unannounced Switch titles seeing as how seven new games were announced at the recent Direct.

GTA 5 on the Nintendo Switch would surely be a huge hit

Fans will surely be hoping that the GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption rumours come true and the Rockstar titles will be heading to the Switch in 2018.

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar Games owner Take Two, has previously backed the Switch.

In an financial conference call last year, he said sales for the Switch had been “great” and Take Two were very optimistic about the console.

He also said Take Two would continue to be very supportive of Nintendo.

Take Two have already supported the Switch with the release of NBA 2K18, WWE 2K18 and LA Noire Remastered.
