Alexis Sanchez to Man Utd: Arsenal hero Charlie Nicholas makes huge claim over deal

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas.

Manchester United are now the frontrunners to sign contract-rebel Alexis Sanchez this month.

Manchester City were favourites to complete a deal but are not prepared to offer more than £20million for the Chile international.

Nicholas still believes Sanchez would prefer a move to City, despite United offering a higher wage than their rivals.

Nicholas himself would rather he joined City as United are closer to Arsenal in the Premier League table.

“I think his first choice or preferred choice would be to sit tight and do the deal with Manchester City,” he said.

“I think ideally with his type of style, he would want to go and play under Pep (Guardiola) again.

“The problem is, in a way it helps Arsenal. You know my feelings on it, I would sell him anyway just to move him on, you have to admit you’re going to lose them anyway and get some money for it.

“My preference then would be that Man City are forced to come in and spend the money because Manchester City is not a rival.

“Arsenal’s got a better chance of being a rival to Manchester United than to Man City, because they’re away and gone.

“So that would be my preferred choice on it. But the player is in control, the player can sit tight.”
